When is it required?<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>The energy performance certificate (EPC).<\/h2>\n<p>An energy performance certificate is a document that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>demonstrates how energy efficient a building (unit) is.<\/li>\n<li>the building (unit) a score of energy efficiency on a scale of A to G, with A being the most energy efficient and G being the least.<\/li>\n<li>includes recommendations to improve energy performance.<\/li>\n<li>is mandatory in some cases (see below).<\/li>\n<li>helps people to make conscious choices regarding the energy efficiency of their building (unit).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Energy performance certificates (EPCs) for residential units.<\/h2>\n<h3>EPC Residential unit<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>For: Houses, apartments, studios, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Required:\n<ul>\n<li>For apartments, studios, duplex, triplex: always required.<\/li>\n<li>For houses: when preparing a notarized deed (sale, rental, inheritance, donation, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Needed for: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.appartement.be\/hoe-werkt-huurindexering\/\">Rent indexation<\/a>, renovation obligation, Fluvius EPC label premium, interest building.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Needed for: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.appartement.be\/hoe-werkt-huurindexering\/\">Rent indexing<\/a>, renovation obligation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vlaanderen.be\/subsidies-aan-ondernemingen-voor-energiebesparende-maatregelen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">enterprise subsidies<\/a>, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Article: <a
